Hello everyone! First of all, I know this might sounds very cheeky since everyone does this, but let me be cliche for just this moment to thank you. When I opened this blog, I saw that I've finally reached 3 million views! And at first, I thought it was just me seeing things, but after refreshing the page for about 50000000 times, I really... I just.... Thank you really, really much. I know I wasn't active for a while now, but I was really busy with school and didn't have much time to make posts. As one of the requests, it was to make the list of my top 2016 shoujo manga, and here it is! Thank you everyone once again for the support. If this sounds too cheeky for you, please ignore it. :D I just really, really wanted to let you know how much I appreciate everything.
Hori may seem like a normal teenage girl, but she's a completely different person after school. In her workaholic parents' absence, Hori has been like a parent for her little brother since she was young herself. Between taking care of her brother, feeding them both, and housework, she doesn't have much time for a usual teenage social life. One day, she meets someone else who does not present his true self at school: a quiet, glasses-wearing boy called Miyamura. She'd assumed he was bookish, and possibly an otaku, but Hori couldn't have been more wrong. Outside of school, Miyamura is a friendly guy with many piercings, and he's not very good at academics. Now the two of them have someone with whom they can share both halves of their lives! From Shoujo Crusade: Hori is your average teenage girl... she has a side she wants no one else to ever find about. Then there's her classmate Miyamura, your generic glasses-wearing boy in school and a totally different person outside. When the two meet unexpectedly, they discover each others' secrets and develop an unexpected friendship.
MANGA: Ookami Shoujo To Kuro Ouji (Wolf Girl & Black Prince) Status: Ongoing Artist: Hatta Ayuko

However, Sata who gave off the nice-charming feelings guy turns out to be a black prince and used her reasons to blackmail her instead.

MANGA: Last Game Status: Ongoing Artist: Amano Shinobu
Summary:
He's rich, he's smart, girls gather around him all the time, and he has always gotten first place on his exams... well, until Kujou transferred in his primary school class. She was quiet, plain, and poor, yet not once has she failed at beating Yanagi, both in academics and sports! Yanagi has made it his life goal to defeat this girl Kujou, and ten years later, as they enter high school, he just might finally win! This is the story of their last game.
MANGA: Hirunaka No Ryuusei Status: Completed Artist: Yamamori Mika
Summary:
15-year-old country girl, Suzume Yosano, has to move to Tokyo to live with her uncle due to her father's transfer. She bumps into a mysterious man who ends up taking her to her uncle's place after she gets lost. Turns out, Suzume will be seeing him a lot more often once she starts school because... he's her homeroom teacher!?
So I'm a HUGE fan of forbidden love, especially if it's between an older guy and a younger girl. I'm also very picky on art and story, so my list of top forbidden relationship manga is kind of small. But either way, ALL of them are super, super good, so be sure to check them out!
NOTE: DON'T READ AFTER "SPOILERS" IF YOU DON'T WANT TO KNOW THE ENDING.
---
MANGA: Hirunaka No Ryuusei Status: Completed Artist: Yamamori Mika
Even though this isn't my favorite manga, I still love it's art and story-line. (I explain in spoilers if you choose to read.) But either way, the clothing, design, and characters are all too-well. You'll love reading this!
Summary:

I actually really, really didn't like the ending. I LOVE the manga, and would have loved it 100% if it wasn't for the ending. (BUT THIS IS JUST MY OPINION!!) Anyway, the student DIDN'T end up with the teacher, even though I'm positive the author fully intended for that to happen but caved in due to all the pressure from her fans. I really don't feel like ranting on this again, but you can read my full rant here: http://renacheneveryday.blogspot.com/2015/06/hirunaka-no-ryuusei-shizume-satsuki.html
MANGA: Kimi O Chuushin Ni Sekai Wa Mawaru Status: Completed Artist: Hatta Ayuko
This mangaka is my top favorite one of the century! Hatta Ayuko, the author who also wrote Ookami Shoujo To Kuro Ouji, is great at illustration and makes her story VERY flirty and adds a wow-I-can't-believe-I'm-reading-this feeling. HOWEVER, this is just one volume out of four--so it's pretty short. Basically, it's about a teacher who meets a girl who's also into gaming.
Very sweet and funny! You'll love reading this if you're into romance.
There is no kiss! But the last few pages very obviously hints that they got together.
Only the first volume is the teacher/student relationship. But I have to say, the second volume is pretty good too, about a girl who has forbidden desires. It's also VERY cute and a fun read!
MANGA: Faster Than A Kiss Status: Completed Artist: Tanaka Meca
This manga is a classic! A beautiful ending, and great illustration! Although a bit unrealistic and predictive, the story is still amusing and cute to read. The characters are drawn very well, especially the teacher, who looks VERY charming.
Summary: After losing their parents, Fumino and her brother hop from one relative to another. Getting tired of constantly moving, she finally decides to quit school and work to support her brother on her own. As they sat on a park bench, her teacher appears in front of her and agrees to her demand of marrying and supporting both her and her brother!! Is he serious or just playing around...!?
The teacher ends up with the student, which I am very happy with. They also get married in the end!
MANGA: Boku Wa Imoto Ni Koi O Suru (I'm In Love With My Sister) Status: Completed Artist: Aoki Kotomi
My first and ONLY favorite brother/sister relationship. Their relationship is very flirty and something you'd definitely root for!
Summary:
Yori and Iku are twin brother and sister. Their parents mostly work hard for their best education. Mostly Yori, Iku's brother, has good intelligence and looks. And as for Iku well... Iku's character is kind of a kid one she mostly acts like a kid towards Yori and her parents but she has a cute face. Iku and Yori had been together since childhood they've been together their whole lives. But lately Yori acts differently.. he gives Iku the cold shoulder and gets mad at her is as if he wants to be apart from her. Iku worries and thinks that her brother Yori hates her. But the real truth about Yori's doing's are far more being a "Big Brother" to sweet little Iku. Now, Yori risks different things anything and everything to have Iku. Iku loves her big brother Yori enough that she would risk losing him and she'll do what it takes to keep them together. But Yori doesn't want her that way towards him... as a loyal twin sister dedicated to her own twin. Is it possible that Iku will love Yori not as her big brother but as a man?
Though the brother and sister didn't officially get together, it is very obviously hinted that after they met when they were older, they continued their relationship.
This manga is actually somewhat sexual. =D
MANGA: Papillon: Hana To Chou Status: Completed Artist: Ueda Miwa
The way the mangaka plots the story makes it seem as if the teacher/counselor is a student rather than some older dude who takes responsibilities. The counselor/teacher is also a bit perverted, so that makes this story a thriller. You'll love reading this!
The author also wrote Peach Girl, which is a really love-triangle type of manga. Also a great read!
Summary:
The story is about an ordinary (and rather unpopular) girl named Ageha who is constantly overshadowed by her popular and beautiful twin sister, Hana. Because Ageha grew up in the countryside with their grandmother while Hana was raised by their parents, the two girls ended up with drastically different personalities. For the most part, Ageha remains a silent and hidden student in the school, with only one friend (who isn't all that nice either). In fact, nobody even really knows that she is Hana's twin sister, because despite looking alike, there is still a large gap between the levels of their beauty and popularity. When Hana finds out that Ageha has a crush on a cute boy named Ryuusei (who is actually Ageha's childhood friend from the countryside), Hana becomes curious about their relationship. However, after hearing that Ryuusei hates people like Hana, Hana becomes irritated and using her charming personality, actually manages to snag Ryuusei as her boyfriend! Ageha is left with no one, but thanks to the strange (and attractive) new school counselor, and some unexpected allies, Ageha decides to do her best and take Ryuusei back.
The counselor/teacher and student does get together!
MANGA: Otona Pink Status: Completed Artist: Sato Zakuri
This manga is a bit typical, about a teacher who ends up living with his student. But the artwork is awesome and the plot is very eye-catching. Though a bit sad (a hospital scene), the manga still ends very happily.
I love this scene!
Summary:
Senou Miku is a normal high school girl. On the day that she had her first boyfriend, her mother had a job transfer. And then, her guardian, who came to live with her, turned out to be her homeroom teacher, Nishizono-sensei...
I'm more of the type to judge a work by both its art and story, so it gets very picky for me. There were many artists who I absolutely love but just can't tolerate the story they make (some one them were too cliche, too predictive, too slow, etc.). OF COURSE, I DON'T MEAN THIS AS AN OFFENSIVE ATTACK OR SO. I just hope to share my thoughts and in a way, share my ideas of a great manga to read!
Here I'm sharing the 3 top artists I love, who masters the art of drawing and making new and adorable stories.
1. MANGAKA: Hatta Ayuko
FIRST PLACE HAS TO GO TO HATTA. Her work is extremely funny, creative, and beautiful. The relationship she develops are very flirty and heart-stopping at times. She's not the type of author to make something very prolonged or sad and tends to end tension quickly so you don't "fall for the other character."
Though I love every single story she makes, here are a few of my top ones:
Ookami Shoujo To Kuro Ouji
Summary: Erika lied to her friends about having a boyfriend by showing a picture of an anonymous guy who turned out to be a a schoolmate of hers and was shortly recognized by her friends. Their conversations then was overheard by the guy, Sata Kyouya. Erika went to explain and proposed her idea of faking as lovers. However, Sata who gave off the nice-charming feelings guy turns out to be a black prince and used her reasons to blackmail her instead.
Boku No Sekai Kimi No Real
Summary: 1) Mayu falls in love with Naoki Hagiwara at first sight. For some reason, Naoki seems to look sexy in her eyes. But of course, she can’t tell him that along with her feelings for him. The two get into a fight, but afterwards Naoki seems to be oddly closer to her. 2) If Emi Hachiya doesn’t understand something the first time, then she never will. After receiving test scores with an average of 25 marks she comes home to find Ryou Kurosawa, a handsome tutor waiting for her. But is Emi prepared for his Spartan like training? 3) Mii is in love with her older brother’s friend and kouhai, Waou Kaname. The only problem is that Kaname-kun only sees Mii as a child. Mii tries desperately to make him see her differently but will some older girl competition get in her way? 4) Megu is confessed to by her friend Taichi but refuses. When Megu was 13 she saw her brother’s adult video and was traumatized, not being able to ever date someone. Taichi says he’s ok and that he’ll just flirt for now, but Megu‘s reaction to this is more disastrous than she expected.
Kimi o Chuushin ni Sekai wa Mawaru
Summary: The first short story is a teacher/student relationship. The second is about a girl who likes to draw manga delusions.
Order wa Boku de Yoroshii desu ka
Summary: Akari always goes to a particular coffee shop, but not for their coffee. It's to see Naruse Hijiri-kun, a waiter who's totally Akari's type. And then suddenly one day she finds him waiting outside her school?
Also includes 4 other short stories.
2. MANGAKA: Amano Shinobu
She doesn't have many works, but I'm still a huge follower of her. I love how she designs her characters and changes the cliche of a "cool, unconcerned boy" to a "flustered, embarrassed one." Her art is really sweet and her characters are definitely worth knowing. These are my top two works.
Last Game
Summary: He's rich, he's smart, girls gather around him all the time, and he has always gotten first place on his exams... well, until Kujou transferred in his primary school class. She was quiet, plain, and poor, yet not once has she failed at beating Yanagi, both in academics and sports! Yanagi has made it his life goal to defeat this girl Kujou, and ten years later, as they enter high school, he just might finally win! This is the story of their last game.
Katakoi Triangle
Summary: Sekiya-san of the cultural library has an unrequited love for Yuuki-kun. The one who cares about Sekiya-san is the popular Kasai-kun, who is also Yuuki-kun's friend! And, what's this? Yuuki-kun is rooting for Kasai-kun?! It seems that everyone's feelings are one-sided... or are they?
3. MANGAKA: Sakisaka Io
THIS AUTHOR IS AMAZING. She manages to add a very deep message into her stories while making it yet still fun and flirty for the readers. I'm still in the process of reading all of her works but these two are a must!
Ao Haru Ride (Blue Spring Ride)
Summary: Yoshioka Futaba has a few reasons why she wants to "reset" her image and life as a new high-school student. Because she's cute, she was ostracized by her female friends in junior high, and because of a misunderstanding, she couldn't get her feeling across to the one boy she has always liked, Tanaka-kun. Now in high school, she is determined to be as unladylike as possible so that her friends won't be jealous of her. While living her life this way contentedly, she meets Tanaka-kun again, but he now goes under the name of Mabuchi Kou. He tells her that he felt the same way as she did when they were younger, but now things can never be the same again. Will Futaba be able to continue her love that never even started from three years ago?
Strobe Edge
Summary: Having no experience in romance, the vibrant Ninako curiously explores the meaning of what "love" really is, and is surprised to feel a colorful range of emotions as she grows closer to the school heartthrob, the quiet yet gentle Ren, who also happens to be involved in a longtime relationship. With every intention of keeping her head held high, Ninako prepares to face the mental pain of this one-sided love that she had allowed to take root, facing a series of trials that would either contribute to her growth as a headstrong woman, or break her as it did with other girls. However, is this really a one-sided love? Or had something been silently sown in the most hidden part of Ren's heart?
Yes, from the title, this is a perverted yet romantic anime. You literally see episodes of female characters naked, running around like it's the most natural thing to do. This anime is actually pretty funny but it's not to the point where it's too sexual and uncomfortable to watch.
Plot:
Sakura Dormitory is a dorm of the high school affiliated with Suimei University of the Arts (often shortened as Suiko), which hosts the strangest, most trouble-making students. After being kicked out of the normal dorm for keeping a stray cat, Sorata Kanda moves into Sakura Dormitory. As he starts to get used to the life in the dorm, Mashiro Shiina, a world famous artist who cannot even take care of her daily life, moves in. Sorata is forced to become Mashiro's handler. The story is about their daily lives as well as mental growth.
This is my AMV, which pretty much sums up the anime. Enjoy!
The song I used is Enchanted by Owl City.
The type of romance between the male and female protagonist is just too sweet and adorable.
The title says it all! Want something fun and romantic to read with an unpredictive twist? Well, these are ALL of my personal favorites that I am sure you may like as well!
*Note: The list is not in an order of preference. I suggest reading the summary of the manga before choosing one you would like to read.
Hanagimi To Koisuru Watashi Status: Ongoing Manga
This is not your typical I'm-clueless-to-who-likes-me girl. Nanase, the female protagonist, KNOWS what she wants and openly pursues the male protagonist, Hana. The plot keeps you on your toes and the characters are all worth to root for. Personally, I love love-triangles (which you can see here) but those stories are on such a edge that it's either you fall for the boy who gets the girl or not. This manga DOES introduce love-triangles but ends it at just the right moment so that the reader doesn't develop a deep connection and preference for the supporting character. Overall, the characters are drawn very well and you're bound to love reading this!
Summary:
Nanase Sakashita is good at playing the role of Model Student but that doesn't stop her from taking an interest in Hana-kun, the schools delinquent. Hana-kun accidentally drops a small box while sneaking around on the school grounds. When Nanase tries to return the box, Hana-kun tells her to keep it for it's already too late to give it to the person he likes. Who is this person?
Akagami No Shirayukihime Status: Ongoing Manga/Anime
Now this is something you don't see! Unlike common shoujo manga, this female character isn't depicted as a perfect yet clueless/shy girl who waits for the boy to pursue her. Shirayuki is independent and persistent, which is partly why Prince Zen falls in love with her. The characters are drawn very well and the plot line is definitely surprising. A definite read if you're into drama and fantasy.
Summary:
Shirayuki is a normal citizen of the kingdom of Tanbarun with one unique feature: her red hair. When the prince of Tanbarun orders her to become his concubine because of this, she cuts her hair and escapes to the neighboring kingdom of Clarines. On her way there, she meets and befriends Prince Zen and his two aides. When Zen is poisoned by an apple meant for her, Shirayuki successfully obtains the antidote and decides to accompany the trio to Clarines. Shortly thereafter, Shirayuki passes an exam for a position to train in the palace as a pharmacist. The story follows Shirayuki and her friends as she finds her place in Clarines and carries out her duties as a court pharmacist.
Watashi Ga Motete Dousunda Status: Ongoing Manga
This girl isn't your typical pretty, oblivious character. She's chubby, and went unnoticed for the most part of her life. Though she eventually loses weight, she does at one point become chubby again. (So it's not a "Wow! I was chubby but not anymore!" kind of transformation.) The love-triangle is really breathtaking and the girl even goes on to "date" each and every one of the boys! (Not something you'd see in a traditional manga.) The characters are well-drawn and the plot is a hook!
Summary:
Serinuma Kae is a chubby second-year high schooler and an avid fujoshi who secretly ships her classmates, Igarashi-kun and Nanashima-kun. The death of her favorite anime character causes her to become stressed--and loses weight rapidly. Now that Serinuma has became an attractive girl to her classmates, her snarky kouhai Shinomiya-kun, and her senpai Mutsumi, how is she going to deal with them...with her constant BL-filled, fujoshi mind?!
Haru Matsu Bokura Status: Ongoing Manga
Firstly, these characters are ALL drawn SUPER, SUPER good. The female character, though a bit shy, is actually really fun and amusing to be around. Though this manga has just aired, I can see a budding love-triangle between at least two of the characters. While traditional manga gives this part away--or at least makes it obvious enough for you to guess the ending--this manga keeps you on your toes as you have no clue what's going to happen next!
Summary:
Mizuki cannot readily open her heart to anyone, but she is going to turn over a new leaf in high school and change that. But how can she get along with a good-looking group of four, especially with rumors at school about how they met? Although cautious at first, she gradually gets to know their true personalities. A story about good-looking men and the insanity of youth!
Sometimes, you just have no time to read a whole manga that usually have more than 50 chapters. So there are many short and completed manga out there that takes probably an hour to read. Personally, I love completed manga because cliff hangers are just tempting and you have these urges to just wait and wait and wait for the next chapter. So these below are my top 3 manga that I enjoyed reading. All of them are romantic and cute in a short fashion. Check them out!
1. KUROORIHIME TO KAWAKI NO OU
Story & Art: Kusanagi Mizuho
Status: Completed
Synopsis: Setia is prisoner of Azurite, the tyrant king. She has a fiance waiting for her but the king seems to have taken a fancy in toying with her! But under his ruthless facade there appears to be...
2. VAHLIA NO HANAMUKO
Story & Art: Akizuki Sorata
Status: Completed
Synopsis: Jiru and Vahlia were engaged. But Jiru suddenly went missing! Four years later, Vahlia was betrothed to his younger brother. During the night of the celebration of her second engagement, Vahlia decides to go on a journey… in search of Jiru!
3. DAISUKI DATTA YO, SENSEI...
Story & Art: Shiraishi Yuki
Status: Completed
Synopsis: A girl whom experienced unsuccessful "threads" of love with her teacher, encounters her fated person!?
This is a list and summary of some great anime and manga. There's not much, or any, love triangels in these but it does involve a boy and a girl getting through complications and finally ending up together. Some of the manga are still ongoing, which I really dislike since I end up reading the raw version of the manga to just see what happens. But either way, the "endings" for all of them are super sweet! So if you're looking for more of a realistic version, this might not be for you. However, if you check out my other blog post (http://renacheneveryday.blogspot.com/2015/01/best-realistic-bittersweet-mangaanime.html), it has a few of my favorites real-world-like stories.
Ookami Shoujo To Kuro Ouji (Wolf Girl & Black Prince) Status: Ongoing Anime/Manga
Would you lie and make up a boyfriend if you knew you could get away with it? I think YES! The characters are cute and the ending is just superb. There's not much of a plot but it's very love-like about a cold, cruel guy falling for a girl.
Plot:
Erika lied to her friends about having a boyfriend by showing a picture of an annonymous guy who turned out to be a a schoolmate of hers and was shortly recognized by her friends. Their conversations then was overheard by the guy, Sata Kyouya. Erika went to explain and proposed her idea of faking as lovers. However, Sata who gave off the nice-charming feelings guy turns out to be a black prince and used her reasons to blackmail her instead.
Sword Art Online Status: Ongoing Anima/Manga
There's two seasons of the anime, and I have to say, the anime is much better. It's a romance between a boy and a girl after they have been trapped in an online virtual game. Makes you want to think twice about ever putting something on your head again! (Honestly, if I were playing the game, I would've probably died in the first hour since my mom's very frantic about talking to people and if she doesn't hear a sound, she'd come and probably unplug everything, leading to my death ha ha.)
**I can't find the anime of episode one on YouTube, so you'll have to probably use some other site to watch this.
Plot:
On November 6, 2022, the players log into SAO for the first time, and later discover that they are unable to log out. They are then informed by Akihiko Kayaba, SAO's creator, that if they wish to be free, they must reach the 100th floor of the game's tower and defeat the final boss. However, if their avatars die in-game, their bodies will also die in the real world. One of these players is Kazuto "Kirito" Kirigaya, who was chosen as one of the 1,000 beta testers in the closed beta. Since he had previous experience and knowledge of the game, he felt that he could beat the game easily. As a result, he set out to beat the game on his own. As the game progresses for two years, Kirito eventually befriends a female player named Asuna with whom he ultimately falls in love. After the duo discover the identity of Kayaba's avatar in SAO, they confront and destroy him, freeing themselves and the other players from the game.
Upon being sent back to the real world, Kirito learns that 300 SAO players, including Asuna, still have not awakened yet. Following a clue about Asuna's whereabouts in another VRMMORPG called Alfheim Online (ALO), Kirito also enters the ALO's mainframe. Helped by his cousin Suguha Kirigaya, known as Leafa in the game, he learns that the trapped players in ALO are part of a plan conceived by Nobuyuki Sugō to perform illegal experiments on their minds to put them under his control, including Asuna, whom he intends to marry in the real world in order to take over her family's company. After Kirito foils Nobuyuki's plans, he finally reunites with Asuna back in the real world.
Soon after, Kirito plays another game called Gun Gale Online (GGO) to investigate the mysterious connection between it and deaths occurring in the real world. Assisted by a female player he meets in the game called Sinon, he identifies and exposes the culprits, who include some former members of a murderous guild he previously encountered in SAO.
Kirito is later recruited to assist in testing a state-of-the-art FullDive machine, Soul Translator (STL), which has an interface that is far more realistic and complex than the previous machine he had played. He tests the STL by entering a Virtual Reality world created with The Seed package, named UnderWorld (UW). In the UW mainframe, the flow of time proceeds a thousand times faster than in the real world, and Kirito's memories of what happens inside are restricted. However, he is tricked by one of the murderers from GGO and wakes up inside UnderWorld, leaving him unable to remember how he ended up there or to log out, with his real self left in a comatose state.
Say "I Love You" Status: Ongoing Anima/Manga
Just as the title suggests, this is a very love-related story about a popular guy falling for an average girl. A typical shoujo manga with a predictable plot, yet adorable and keeps you on your toes.
Plot:
Quiet and unassuming Mei Tachibana has spent her high school years without making friends or getting a boyfriend because of a childhood incident that left her believing that people will betray each other sooner or later. When she encounters a popular boy named Yamato Kurosawa, he becomes interested in her, and it is through their tentative friendship and blossoming relationship that Mei ultimately begins to branch out and befriend others.
Kimi Ni Todoke Status: Ongoing Anime/Manga
A refreshing and popular guy after a "creepy" girl? Sounds about fun to me! The main male protagonist isn't a playboy, like most shoujo manga, but rather a sweet, and kind person. He loves helping out everyone and has his eyes on one outcast in particular.
Plot:
Sawako Kuronuma - dubbed Sadako by her classmates for her resemblance to the character from The Ring - has always been feared and misunderstood because of her appearance; rumors around school report that she can see ghosts and curse people. However, despite her ominous appearance, she is actually a sweet and timid girl who only longs to be able to make friends and be liked by everyone else. When her idol, the popular boy Kazehaya, begins talking with her, everything changes. She finds herself in a new world, making new friends and talking to different people, and she can't thank Kazehaya enough for giving her these opportunities. Slowly, but surely, a sweet love blossoms between the two as they overcome circumstances and obstacles that stand in their way.
Akagami No Shirayukihime Status: Ongoing Manga
Wow! Getting the interests and love from a handsome prince! I think YES!
Plot:
Shirayuki was a young girl born with unique apple-red hair. She meets a famous but foolish Prince Raji, who falls in love with her at first sight and orders her to become his concubine. With nowhere else to go, Shirayuki cuts her hair and escapes to a neighboring country. While traversing through the forests, she meets a young man, Zen, who helps her after she boldly cures his wounds, but then gets poisoned by an apple meant for Shirayuki. Meanwhile, Prince Raji sends out henchmen to search for her. What will happen to Shirayuki? What is Zen’s true character? A refreshing fantasy love story between an optimistic heroine and a prince who constantly stays on her watch.
Papillon: Hana to Chou Status: Completed Manga
Who thought having twins would be bad? Fighting over the same boys all the time can't be all that troublesome. Or can it?
Plot:
Lovely Complex Status: Completed Anime/Manga
A touching story with the message that height doesn't matter when it comes to love!
Plot:
Lovely Complex is a love story between a boy and a girl in Sakai, Osaka. The girl, Risa Koizumi, is 173 centimetres (5 ft 8 in) tall—much taller than the average Japanese girl. The boy, Atsushi Ōtani, is 156 cm (5 ft 1 in)—way below the height of the average Japanese boy. Because of this, the pair are called the "All Hanshin Kyojin" after a popular comedy duo that has a similar height difference. The difference in their heights is extremely exaggerated (in the opening credits of the anime, for example, the top of Ōtani's head doesn't even reach Risa's chin when it should be approximately level with her mouth.)
During summer school, a very tall student named Ryouji Suzuki (from another class) shows up and Risa immediately falls for him because he is tall. There is a girl that Atsushi likes as well, so Risa and Atsushi decide to put aside their differences and help each other get their love interests. Their efforts fail spectacularly as Suzuki and the girl whom Ōtani had a crush on - Chiharu Tanaka - end up becoming a couple. All is not lost though, since Risa and Ōtani become best friends. As they get to know each other better, Risa's feelings for Atsushi begin to blossom, and her love life gets complicated from there on.
So you might not be a fan of those love, almost-unrealistic stories of a boy and girl. You might enjoy more of a realistic version, something that could happen in real life. In other words, there's no girl losing boy, and somehow magically finding him and then getting together. These plots are meaningful, and in a way, if you think about it, can happen in a life. Well, these are my top stories on the list:
The Girl Who Leap Through Time (Toki Wo Kakeru Shoujo) Status: Completed Anime/Manga
Very tear-jerking story. The main girl character does not get together with the main boy protagonist. The boy tells the girl he will see her in the future, which we all know won't happen since the time period the girl is in is undeveloped in time traveling. It's up to the boy to come back, but will he ever do so or is this all just a trick for the boy to get something he wants? I never got the impression that the boy truly likes the girl because if he did, he would've stayed and gave up his time traveling abilities.
Plot:
After 17 ordinary years on Earth, Makoto Konno's journey was about to be ended by a freak accident. Then, life gave her a reset button. With her newfound time-leaping powers, she immediately sets out to wipe off all the little annoyances in her daily life, from failing grades to iffy relationships she can't handle. But as her time-leaps get more frequent, she is forced to realize that every change she makes has profound repercussions that she can't foresee...and should her powers fail her, the consequences could be disastrous... Based on the 2006 animated film, which was in turn loosely based on the 1965 novel.
Boku wa Imoto ni Koi o Suru (I'm In Love With My Sister) Status: Completed Anime/Manga
This is probably the most heart-warming story in this list here, where the main girl character do eventually end up with the main boy protagonist, though this is not the main focus. The main focus is on the journey to get there, which is why this story sounds realistic. Through hardships with their parents pushing them away and "friends" butting into their relationship, the boy and the girl try to find ways to remain together.
Plot:
Yori and an Iku Yuki are twin brother and sister, who have been extremely close since they were born. During their childhood, Yori used to tell their parents that he would marry Iku. While their parents brushed this off as an innocent childhood fantasy, Yori knew that his feelings were more than an innocent crush on his sister. When they are fifteen, his feelings have grown stronger than before. Yori has by now understood that he has fallen deeply and hopelessly in love with Iku, which makes him feel ashamed. Due to that they share a bedroom, Yori finds it harder and harder to resist his feelings for her, so he begins to distance himself from her and acts coldly to her. Iku is hurt and shaken by his harsh treatment towards her, but she tries to remain cheerful and make him smile.
Spirited Away Status: Completed Anime
The boy doesn't get together with the girl since they both belong to different worlds. But it's touching how the main characters help one another get through the troubles they each had. It's a memorable film, though not romantic, but realistic in a way.
Plot:
Ten-year-old Chihiro Ogino and her parents are traveling to their new home when her father takes a wrong turn. They unknowingly enter a magical world that Chihiro's father insists on exploring. While Chihiro's parents eat like pigs at an empty restaurant stall, Chihiro finds an exquisite bathhouse and meets a young boy named Haku who warns her to return across the river before sunset. However, Chihiro discovers too late that her parents have turned into actual pigs and she is unable to cross the flooded river, becoming trapped in the spirit world.
After finding Chihiro, Haku has her ask for a job from the bathhouse's boiler-man, Kamaji, a spider yōkai commanding the susuwatari. Kamaji and the worker Lin send Chihiro to the witch, Yubaba, who runs the bathhouse; she gives Chihiro a job but renames her Sen. While visiting her parents' pigpen, Sen finds a goodbye card addressed to Chihiro and realizes that she has already forgotten her name. Haku warns her that Yubaba controls people by taking their names and that if she forgets hers like he has forgotten his, she will not be able to leave the spirit world. While working, Sen invites a silent masked creature named No-Face inside, believing him to be a customer. A 'stink spirit' arrives as Sen's first customer. She discovers he is the spirit of a polluted river. In gratitude for cleaning him, he gives Sen a magic emetic dumpling. Meanwhile No-Face tempts a worker with gold, then swallows him. He demands food and begins tipping extensively. As the workers swarm him hoping to be tipped, he swallows yet another two greedy workers.
Sen discovers paper shikigami attacking a dragon and recognizes the dragon as Haku transformed. When a grievously-injured Haku crashes into Yubaba's penthouse, Sen follows him upstairs. When she reaches Haku, a shikigami that stowed away on her back transforms into Zeniba, Yubaba's twin sister. She transforms Yubaba's baby son Boh into a mouse, creates a decoy baby and turns Yubaba's bird creature into a tiny bird. Zeniba tells Sen that Haku has stolen a magic golden seal from her, and warns Sen that it carries a deadly curse. After Haku dives to the boiler room with Sen and Boh on his back, she feeds him part of the dumpling, causing him to vomit both the seal and a black slug, which Sen crushes with her foot.
With Haku unconscious, Sen resolves to return the seal and apologize for Haku. Before she leaves the bathhouse, Sen confronts No-Face, who is now massive and feeds him the rest of the dumpling. No-Face chases Sen out of the bathhouse, steadily vomiting out those he has eaten. Sen, No-Face and Boh travel to see Zeniba. Enraged at the damage caused by No-Face, Yubaba blames Sen for inviting him in and orders that her parents be slaughtered. After Haku reveals that Boh is missing, he promises to retrieve Boh in exchange for Yubaba freeing Sen and her parents.
Sen, No-Face and Boh arrive at Zeniba's house, where Zeniba, now the benevolent "Granny", reveals that Sen's love for Haku broke her curse and that Yubaba had used the black slug to control Haku. Haku appears in his dragon form and flies both Sen and Boh back to the bathhouse. No-Face unexpectedly shows itself as a very good spinner for Zeniba and accepts her proposal to stay as worker. On the way back, Sen recalls a memory from her youth in which she had fallen into the Kohaku River but was washed safely ashore. After correctly guessing that Haku is the spirit of the Kohaku River (and thus revealing his real name), Haku is completely freed from Yubaba's control. When they arrive at the bathhouse, Yubaba tells Sen that in order to break the curse on her parents, she must identify them from among a group of pigs. After Sen correctly states that none of the pigs are her parents, she is given back her real name Chihiro. Haku takes her to the now dry riverbed and vows to meet her again. Chihiro crosses the river and reunites with her restored parents, who do not remember what happened. They walk back to their car and drive away.
Wolf Children Status: Completed Anime
The main character actually dies in here. And the main character's son practically runs away while the daughter just goes off to her own world. This is a VERY sad movie, making you want to cry your heart out at the end.
Plot:
College student Hana falls in love with a werewolf and has two half-werewolf children with him: a daughter, Yuki, and a year later a son, Ame. Soon after Ame's birth, their father is killed while hunting food for the children.
Raising Yuki and Ame alone is difficult; they constantly switch between their human and wolf forms, and Hana has to hide them from the world. When she is visited by social workers concerned that the children have not had vaccinations, Hana moves the family to the countryside away from prying neighbors. She works hard to repair the dilapidated house and sustain the family on their own crops. Ame almost drowns in a river after trying to hunt a kingfisher; Yuki saves him and Ame becomes more confident.
Yuki begs her mother to let her go to school like other children. Hana accepts on the condition that Yuki keeps her werewolf nature secret. Though Yuki's classmates find her strange at first, she soon makes friends. However, Ame is more interested in the forest, and takes lessons from an old fox about survival in the wild.
Yuki's class receives a new transfer student, Souhei, who realizes something is strange about her. When he pursues her, Yuki transforms into a wolf and accidentally injures him, leading to a meeting with his parents and teachers. Souhei tells them a wolf attacked him, absolving Yuki of blame, and the two become friends.
Yuki and Ame fight over whether they are human or wolf. The next day, while Yuki is at school, a fierce storm gathers and Ame disappears into the forest; Hana goes after him. The other children are picked up from school by their parents, leaving Yuki and Souhei alone. Yuki reveals her secret to him by transforming into a wolf. Souhei tells her he already knew, and promises to keep her secret.
As Hana searches the forest for Ame, she slips and falls unconscious. Ame finds her and carries her to safety. She awakens to see Ame transform into an adult wolf and run into the mountains. She realizes he has found his own path and accepts his goodbye.
The next year, Yuki leaves home to attend a dorm in junior high school. Ame's wolf howls can be heard far and wide in the forest. Hana, living alone in the house, reflects that raising her wolf children was like a fairy tale, and feels proud to have raised them well.

As a side note, you might notice I only listed four stories I found interesting. I know there are lots more out there, but since I'm more of an unrealistic-favoring type of person, I never bothered to watch them unless if they are REALLY good. So if you don't find these stories to be up to your standards of realistic or bittersweet, it's probably because I became biased towards the truly sad ones. But even still, give these stories a chance; you might really like them!
I know a lot of us love stories where there's two boys fighting over one girl. And after browsing through many manga and anime, the list below remains my top favorites! There's no list below such as top 1, top 2, etc. They're all worth reading in my opinion, which is why I didn't number them, so check out the descriptions and find which one you prefer to read first! I also provide a link to the anime and/or manga for them if available.
*You might notice I don't really give names in my description (written below the status whether the story has a manga or anime or both), not the plot description, of the story. The reason for that is I don't want to spoil the show for you. But if you're like me and just HAVE to know the ending before reading or watching the manga or anime so you know if the character you like will end up with the girl or not, then feel free to search for the "spoiler" yourself. All of them are online and can easily be found. But if you like things to be a mystery, then just twirl in the story and see what happens!
Kaichou Wa Maid-Sama
Status: Completed
Anime/Manga
Really cute guy and girl protagonist, with of course the girl oblivious to the guy's interest and the guy's playful manner pursuing the girl. It's more of a school shoujo manga with a twist of romance (yes, there's a love triangle, more four ways than three with three guys after one girl!) If you're into those more realistic looking characters, you might love this one. There's both an anime and manga for this. And best of all, it's completed!
Plot:
Once an all-boys school, Seika High, a renowned school full of reckless and filthy students, has recently become a co-ed school. However, with the female population still remaining a minority even after the change over the recent years, Misaki Ayuzawa takes it into her own hands to reform the school and allow a chance for the girls to feel safer in the rough environment. Even the teachers are on her side. Training, studying and even becoming the first female student council president of the school, Misaki has gained a reputation, among the male students body as an uptight boy-hating demon dictator and as a shining hope for the teachers and fellow female students. However, despite her tough-as-nails appearance, she secretly works part-time at a maid café in order to support her family. Unfortunately, her secret is soon discovered by Takumi Usui, a popular boy at Seika High. Later as the story continues both Takumi and Misaki find out the love they have for each other. The story also involves all the members working at Maid cafe where Misaki works, Members of the rivalry elite school Miyabigaoka, Misaki's family, Usui's family and Misaki's childhood friend Hinata Shintani along with some school friends as well as members of student council of Seika High.
Strobe Edge
Status: Completed
Manga
The main guy protagonist (dark-haired) has a cool appearance and seems to not really take part in anything. But he's also sweet and friendly plus handsome, which is why many girls fall for him. The supporting character, also a guy (light-haired), is more of a playboy and enjoys teasing and having fun with girls. This is a love triangle between the playboy and the cool guy. This is a school shoujo manga with a kind of complicated relationship with one guy pushing the girl to date him and the other just backing off, only jumping in at the last minute. The story is still cute, and kind of predictable. The characters are drawn pretty well, and the girl is not oblivious to the interests of the boys.
Plot:
15-year-old Ninako Kinoshita has never been in love until an encounter on the train with her school's most popular boy, the quiet Ren Ichinose. As she grows closer to Ren, she falls in love with him, but must learn to cope with the unfortunate fact that Ren already has a longtime girlfriend.
Ao Haru Ride
Status: Completed
Anime/Manga
Actually, this is probably one of my FAVORITE manga/anime out there. The author for this manga is also the writer for Strobe Edge (above), so if you liked that, you'll definitely love this. The love triangle isn't really the main focus of the story, as in it doesn't just start out with the triangle right away, but rather the story builds into it. Both the male and female protagonist has their own triangle so you get a take on both sides, which I find really touching. The plot is SUPER GOOD and it just brings in so many feelings that will get you pumped up and happy.
The anime is removed from Youtube (probably due to copyright) but you can easily find and watch in online on Crunchyroll or so.
Plot:
Yoshioka Futaba has a few reasons why she wants to "reset" her image and life as a new high-school student.
Ouran High School Host Club Status: Completed Anime/Manga
Unlike the previous manga, this main girl protagonist IS oblivious to the interests of the boys. It's also foursome, with a triangle between 3 guys and 1 girl. The main boy protagonist is very flamboyant and oblivious to his own feelings for the girl, only fully realizing it practically at the middle-end of the manga. The characters are ALSO well drawn and the plot is unpredictable.
Plot:
Haruhi Fujioka is a scholarship student at the prestigious Ouran Academy, a fictitious high school located in Bunkyo, Tokyo. Looking for a quiet place to study, Haruhi stumbles upon the Third Music Room, a place where the Ouran Academy Host Club, a group of six male students, gathers to entertain female "clients." During their initial encounter, Haruhi accidentally knocks over and breaks an antique vase valued at ¥8,000,000 (US $80,000 in the U.S. English manga) and is told to repay the cost in service to the club as an errand boy. Haruhi's short hair, slouching attire and gender-ambiguous face cause her to be mistaken by the hosts for a male student. After a brief run as such, the Hosts soon realize that she's a "natural" in entertaining girls and promote her to full-Host status. She agrees since Hosting will help her pay off her debt more quickly. The members of the club discover her true gender one by one, but they keep this fact a secret.
Ouran Elite Academy encompasses pre-school through high school and has an attached university program. Most students come from elite families, but a scholarship is annually awarded to the top scorer on a rigorous entrance examination. Haruhi is such a student for her grade level. The school's unofficial motto is "Lineage counts first, wealth a close second," meaning students with stellar family backgrounds but low socioeconomic status may be given top priority over those from rich families with lesser pedigrees.
Hirunaka No Ryuusei Status: Completed Manga
This is the love triangle that's get you asking ALL THE WAY until the end of the series, who is she seriously going to end up with? It literally makes a rushed conclusion (and though I don't want to give it away), you see an amusing tug-of-war between the two boys (one a teacher, and the other a student). The female protagonist, from the start, realizes her feelings for the two male protagonists and even confesses to both of them. So this isn't a manga where the girl is oblivious to what is happening around her. The characters are well drawn, and for 2 chapters, they even add is a collaboration between this manga and Hibi Chouchou (Google it), which I thought was a good add in.
Plot:
15-year-old country girl Suzume Yosano has to move to Tokyo to live with her uncle due to her father's transfer. She bumps into a mysterious man who ends up taking her to her uncle's place after she gets lost. Turns out, Suzume will be seeing him a lot more often once she starts school because...he's actually her homeroom teacher!
Fruits Basket Status: Completed Anime/Manga
Honestly, this IS a love triangle, but at the same time, not. The reason I say this is because one of the guys in the triangle realize sometime near the end that he likes the girl in a motherly way since he never had the motherly love from his own mother. But it's really cute how the story incorporates the Chinese zodiac animals into this plot, which is also unpredictable by the way. The girl is NOT oblivious to her feelings and chases after one guy in the triangle. This takes place in a school.
Plot:
When high school student Tohru Honda's mother dies in a car crash on her way to work, she decides to live with her grandfather. Renovations on the house cause her to move out of her grandfather's house temporarily and, since she has nowhere else to go, Tohru begins living in a tent and supporting herself. That is, until she finds a home in the least likely of places, inhabited by her popular classmate Yuki Sohma and his cousins Shigure and Kyo.
The Sohmas live with a curse. Twelve members of the family (not including Kyo, who is the cat) are possessed by spirits of the Chinese zodiac and turn into their zodiac animal when they are weak, under stress, or when hugged by someone of the opposite gender.
When Tohru discovers the Sohmas' secret, she promises not to tell and is allowed to keep living with them. Although the Sohmas' curse is deeper and darker than Tohru realized, her presence and her acceptance of them soon becomes a large, positive influence on those possessed by the zodiac. She sets out to break the curse and, on the way, meets and discovers the Sohma's vengeful zodiac spirits. Each has a different personality, just like the animals in the Chinese zodiac. Tohru's existence changes the Sohma clan's lives forever.
Peach Girl Status: Completed Anime/Manga
If you're into stories where the girl dates BOTH of the characters in the love triangle before making her decision, this is literally for you. In other words, this isn't a story where both guys confess to the girl, the girl thinks about it, and then chooses one guy. It's a story where the girl likes both boys, dates both of them, and THEN decide. Now before you get the wrong idea, this girl is not a slut or just enjoys fooling around with boys. There's a meaning to these dates with both boys, and it's up to you to find out! This also takes place in a school.
Plot:
Momo Adachi is a former member of the high school swim team. She tans easily and her hair is bleached out; unfortunately, she is stereotyped by her ignorant classmates and is forced to endure rumors about being an "easy girl" who has had many sexual relationships. Her only friend is Sae, who is actually responsible for spreading the nasty gossip due to her jealousy of Momo. Momo is in love with Toji, a taciturn baseball player, but the scheming Sae also has her sights set on the boy. Momo's life is further complicated with the introduction of Kairi Okayasu, a wise-cracking playboy who is determined to make her his. He reveals to Momo that she had saved him from drowning the summer before high school started.
Things become even more complicated when Sae, in an attempt to make Momo miserable, spreads rumors about Momo and Kairi making out. The rumor about the kiss between the two is true, but it was Kairi who initiated it while Momo remained stunned by the interaction. When Toji is hospitalized, Sae convinces Toji to break up with Momo. Thanks to Kairi, he finds out about all the lies and rumors Sae has made up. Toji saves Momo from being bullied (thanks to Sae's lies again) and tells the truth about him and Momo, resulting in the students apologizing to Momo and hating Sae. Toji and Momo get back together, but Sae later tries to complicate their relationship again by threatening to discredit Momo with her newly acquired access to the mass media. Though Toji is initially defiant, he reluctantly breaks up with Momo to protect her. Momo is heartbroken at first, particularly due to not knowing that it is part of Sae's schemes. However, she eventually begins dating Kairi, whom she had previously considered annoying, and soon begins to fall in love with him. When it is revealed to Momo why Toji broke up with her, Momo is left to choose between Toji and Kairi. More problems arise and the love triangle intensifies.
Last Game Status: Ongoing Manga
Very amusing love triangle between two guys and a girl, where you constantly get to see the guys fighting one another. The girl, of course, is oblivious to all of this, but eventually finds out her feelings for one guy. The girl in this manga is the indifferent type while the boys are the playful ones. I'm still currently reading this manga, and it's SUPER good. It's kind of like Ouran High School Host Club where one of the guy is super rich and good looking and just falls for a girl who's average. In my opinion, this is one manga that just DEMANDS an anime.
Plot:
He's rich, he's smart, girls gather around him all the time, and he has always gotten first place on his exams... well, until Kujou transferred in his primary school class. She was quiet, plain, and poor, yet not once has she failed at beating Yanagi, both in academics and sports! Yanagi has made it his life goal to defeat this girl Kujou, and ten years later, as they enter high school, he just might finally win! This is the story of their last game.
Otona Pink
Status: Completed
Manga
This is more like a forbidden relationship between the teacher and the student. And well, the love triangle is between the girl and the teacher and the girl's boyfriend! This manga is short so if you don't have much time but still want to finish reading a complete manga, this is for you.
Plot:
Senou Miku is a normal high school girl. On the day that she had her first boyfriend, her mother had a job transfer. And then, her guardian, who came to live with her, turned out to be her homeroom teacher, Nishizono-sensei...
Ouji Ka Prince Status: Ongoing Manga
A love triangle between brothers, perhaps? This manga, like the previous one, is also very short. However, it's still ongoing, so it leaves you hanging in the dark. The sad part is that the last chapter was published in 2013. And we are in 2015. Though I'm still following up on this story, I doubt there will be another chapter. Even still, the triangle is evident in the first 6 chapters, between the cool, prince-type guy and his playful brother.
Plot:
Tsunagi's a high school girl who admires the famous, beautiful and distant imperial prince: Koji Ninomiya. Tsunagi's life takes a new light with a new classmate, Haruhi, who amazingly - and suspiciously - looks exactly like the famous prince...
Skip Beat Status: Ongoing Anime/Manga
Isn't revenge sweet? Honestly, this is a great anime and manga but for me (I'm not sure about you), the characters are a bit off. They're not well drawn and do not look as realistic as I had expected. However, the plot is very unpredictable and the story keeps you on your toes. You might not like it as much in the beginning, but if you read to chapter 5 or so, you will literally become addicted to it.
Plot:
Skip Beat! follows the story of Kyoko Mogami, a sixteen year-old girl who loves her childhood friend, Shotaro Fuwa, but is betrayed by him. Having spent a large part of her childhood at Shotaro's parents' inn, she learned a great deal about hostelry and other such jobs. Shotaro, not wishing to take over his parents' business, asks Kyoko to run away with him to Tokyo, leaving high school and her life in Kyoto Prefecture behind to help him pursue a career in music. Upon arrival in Tokyo, Kyoko lives an unreasonably frugal life and works multiple jobs to support Sho, as he is called by his fans, spending nothing on herself and doing whatever she can for Sho, who eventually becomes ranked seventh of the top twenty most popular male celebrities of Japan. One day, she overhears Shotaro complaining about her to his manager, saying that she is a boring and plain girl who he thinks of as a doormat. He proceeds to sweet-talk and flirt with his manager, in stark contrast to the cold and demanding attitude he usually exhibits towards Kyoko. Kyoko doesn't shed many tears when she learns that Sho wanted her along only to handle housekeeping duties. Instead, her "Pandora's box" opens and she vows vengeance on Sho. As she is carried away by security, Sho mockingly tells her that if she wants revenge, she had better become a bigger star than he is. And so, Kyoko changes her appearance and enters the entertainment industry, facing many challenges along the way. Skip Beat! follows Kyoko's journey climbing up the showbiz ladder as she meets interesting people, troublemakers and friends alike, with hopes of getting revenge on Shotaro, as well as regaining the sense of compassion that she had lost when her heart was broken by him. Along the way she meets Ren Tsuruga, who at first disapproves of Kyoko but later comes to love her. As Kyoko cultivates her acting and friendships, she soon discovers a sense of self separate from her initial plans for revenge.
Stardust Wink Status: Ongoing Manga
Another playful love triangle between two really good looking boys and a girl. The girl DOES date both boys and then makes her decision on which boy is right for her. Again, like Peach Girl, this character is not a slut or just enjoys fooling around with boys. There's a point to her actions in dating both boys, and it's up to you to find out! However, the story is kind of predictable and doesn't have much of a plot as evidenced in Skip Beat.
Plot:
I’m Anna. I’m 14 years old and I've just entered the ninth grade. Sou and Hinata, who live in the same apartment complex as me, are my childhood friends and we’re all the same age. I thought that from now on we’d become even closer friends, but then my senior came! I don't know what to do!
---
All in all, if you're ever bored and want something with a love triangle to read, these are for you! Personally, I'm more of a fan of completed manga since I like to sneak a look at the ending, but the ongoing ones are also just as fun.
HAPPY READING!
